When my sister was over for Christmas, we watched the BBC trailer for their upcoming shows in 2013. I spotted Matthew Macfadyen and immediately made note of the title: Ripper Street.
When I actually started watching it, the plot of the first episode put me off, and I thought it would be too gritty for me. I then spent the next week debating with myself, because I really wanted to like it, since it's such an interesting time period for a crime show.
I pushed through and watched the next episode. And the rest is history.
